Vascular Surgery

What Is Vascular Surgery?

Vascular surgery focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the circulatory system, including arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels outside of the heart and brain. It often includes minimally invasive techniques to restore healthy blood flow.

Who Should See a Vascular Surgeon?

If you have leg pain when walking, non-healing wounds on your legs or feet, visible varicose veins, or a family history of aneurysms or vascular disease, you may need to see a vascular surgeon. People with diabetes, high cholesterol, or smoking history are at higher risk.

Conditions Treated by Vascular Surgeons:

  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency
  • Aortic aneurysms
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Limb-threatening circulatory issues

Types of Vascular Surgeries and Treatments:

  • Angioplasty and stent placement in arteries
  • Bypass surgery for blocked arteries
  • Aneurysm repair (open or endovascular)
  • Carotid endarterectomy (removal of artery plaque)
  • Sclerotherapy and laser treatments for veins
